Attorney Ray Buenaventura believes in vigorous advocacy for each and every client. A former Los Angeles deputy public defender, he now devotes his practice to fighting for the rights and safety of those who have been charged with a crime, striving to build trust and lasting relationships with his clients. Without judgment, he takes on cases from simple shoplifting to capital murder and is a death penalty qualified criminal defense attorney. He is seasoned and skilled in the courtroom, having provided counsel in more than 100 jury trials. Mr. Buenaventura is a Certified Criminal Law Specialist, a designation reserved for a select few lawyers deemed qualified through a rigorous review of trial work, evidentiary hearings, case investigations, case law research, trial strategy preparations, and motion litigation.
Mr. Buenaventura is personally invested in the community. In addition to being a trusted Daly City criminal defense attorney, he served as mayor for two terms and currently serves as a councilmember. He also served on the Library Board of Trustees for more than four years. As the executive director of the Youth Court Program, he developed a Youth Court Justice Center in Santa Clara County to provide an alternative, community-based system of juvenile justice. Mr. Buenaventura graduated from the Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College, a program that designed to increase attorneys’ integrity and effectiveness. In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Joe Morozumi Award for Exceptional Legal Advocacy by the Asian American Bar Association of Northern California, recognizing his commitment to justice and fighting for his clients.
